BBQ Sauce
Skip the store-bought stuff—this homemade BBQ sauce is clean, tangy, and full of flavor without any of the questionable ingredients. Made with organic tomato products, natural sweeteners like Yacon syrup, and a kick of hickory smoke, it’s the perfect blend of sweet and savory.
I love that I can control exactly what goes in it, no added sugar, preservatives, or artificial flavors. Plus, it stores beautifully in glass jars so you're always ready for a backyard BBQ or quick weeknight meal. Once you taste this, you may never go back to bottled again!
Ingredients:
- 24 oz. jar organic strained tomatoes*
- 7 oz. jar organic tomato paste*
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar*
- 1/3 cup Yacon syrup*
- 2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
- 24 oz. jar organic strained tomatoes*
- 7 oz. jar organic tomato paste*
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar*
- 1/3 cup Yacon syrup*
- 2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
- 1/2 Tbsp. ground black pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp. Himalayan Salt
- 1/2 Tbsp. organic onion powder
- 1/2 Tbsp. organic onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon organic granulated garlic
- 1 teaspoon organic paprika
- 1 teaspoon or to taste Lazy Kettle Natural Hickory Liquid Smoke*
Optional:
- 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne if you want it spicy (I don’t use it)
- 2-3 drops Young LivingLemon Vitality Essential Oil
Directions:
Tip before you start: After you dump the tomato products into the pan, put the cup of water into the 7 ounce glass jar and shake it to get all the goodness from it and then, pour to tomato water into the 24 ounce jar and shake it well and dump it into the pan with the other ingredients.
1. Place all ingredients, except the Lemon Vitality Essential Oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and stir to combine. Taste and adjust seasonings to your liking. Bring just to a boil.
2. Reduce heat to low and allow to simmer for 1 hour or until thickened to your liking.
3. Cool for an hour
4. Add the Young Living Lemon Vitality Essential Oil
5. Store in glass jars in the refrigerator (I use the same two glass jars that the tomato paste and strained tomatoes came in. I mark the label with a marker with BBQ and the date. I store them in the frig. When we finish them, I toss the jars and begin again with a new batch and new jars.
Note that my tomato products are organic, come in glass jars and have NO SALT added to them. If you use tomato products that are already salted, adjust the salt amount in the recipe down. In fact, you may not even need the salt in this recipe.
